LIP AUGMENTATION
Merheb Surgical Arts Peoria & Pekin IL

Full lips are a sign of youth and beauty. Women usually use clever makeup strategies and optimal lipstick colors to achieve flattering effects. As we age the red portion of the lip shrinks in size. In addition to the loss of fullness, the lips lose definition. Lip augmentation results in fuller, plumper and even pouty lips (if desired) adding tremendous improvement to the smile. It can also reduce fine wrinkles around the mouth or even sometimes correct a gummy smile. Various techniques are used to achieve the desired effect. Some options require repeated treatments and others are longer-lasting. Schedule a complimentary, private consultation with Dr. Merheb to discuss your concerns and how you can achieve soft, kissable, fuller but natural looking lips for you.
How is the procedure done?
Fillers like Juvederm are most commonly used to enhance the lips. Lip augmentation is performed in the office with the use of local anesthesia. The filler material is injected until the desired effect is obtained. The results can last up to one year. Dr. Merheb prefers a conservative enhancement for first-time patients.
If the implant technique is used then small incisions are made on the red portion of the lips in order to insert the proper size implant. Sutures are used.

How will you look after surgery?
Moderate swelling usually resolves within a few days. Ice packs are used for 24-48 hours. Arnica Montana pills (herb) are usually given to reduce bruising, pain and swelling. Faint bruising can be easily covered by lipstick. Sometimes oral steroids are prescribed to help decrease the swelling quickly. Most patients have no pain at all. If minimal discomfort occurs, it can be controlled with over-the-counter or medications prescribed by your surgeon.
