One of the first signs of aging is often seen in the neck, leading to what many refer to as a double chin. A neck lift is an excellent procedure for individuals looking to enhance the contour of their neck. This isolated neck lift is particularly suitable for younger patients who have a double chin without significant jowls. It can also be combined with a chin implant to improve the overall facial profile.

In older individuals, the neck may exhibit excess loose skin and jowls, along with more pronounced bands in the center, a condition often referred to as “turkey neck.” In such cases, a neck lift is typically combined with a facelift to achieve optimal results.

How Is the Procedure Performed?

A neck lift is a surgical procedure conducted in our office’s outpatient surgery suite. It involves a small incision made under the chin. The procedure begins with liposuction in the neck, followed by tightening the underlying neck muscles. The outcome is a more defined neck contour and a younger, more attractive profile. When performed in conjunction with a facelift, excess skin can also be tightened and removed using the incisions made during the facelift procedure.

What Can You Expect After Surgery?

Patients will wear a head dressing for 24 hours post-surgery. Sutures are typically removed on the fifth day. Swelling usually subsides within five to seven days, while any faint bruising may persist beyond a week but can be easily concealed with makeup or appropriate clothing. Minimal discomfort is expected following the procedure, which can be managed with medications prescribed by your surgeon. Patients are advised to avoid lifting and strenuous exercise for one month following the surgery.
