Rhinoplasty is a facial cosmetic surgery designed to enhance both the function and appearance of a person’s nose. This procedure can be performed on individuals of all ages and is often combined with other surgical treatments, such as chin augmentation, to achieve a more improved aesthetic outcome.

Before Surgery

During your complimentary consultation, Dr. Merheb will address your concerns and provide a custom treatment plan to achieve optimal results. We will evaluate your medical history to determine your overall health. A second appointment allows staff to provide more detailed pre-operative instructions, discuss risks and benefits of the procedure, and review post-operative care.

How is the procedure done?

Under general anesthesia, incisions are made inside the nostrils. Additionally, small, inconspicuous incisions may be made on the skin that separates the nostrils. For most patients, the surgery involves reducing the size of the nose, altering the shape of the tip, or removing a hump. To improve nasal breathing, a septoplasty may be performed in conjunction with these cosmetic adjustments. Rhinoplasty is often combined with chin augmentation to address a weak chin and enhance the overall profile.

How will you look after surgery?

After surgery, a lightweight nasal splint is placed on the nose to help maintain its shape. This splint is removed after seven days. Skin stitches are taken out on the fourth day following the surgery. Internal nasal splints may also be inserted during the procedure to protect the nose, and these are also removed on day four. Patients may experience swelling and bruising around the eyes, but this typically begins to fade within a few days, with discoloration generally disappearing within two weeks. Patients need to avoid strenuous activities for two to three weeks post-surgery. If the nasal bones are reshaped during the procedure, patients will not be able to wear glasses for up to six weeks.

While the immediate results of rhinoplasty are visible right away, the final aesthetic results should be appreciated about six months after the surgery.
