After Eyelid Surgery

Dressing

If your eyes do not close at first due to swelling, you may need a lubricating ointment at night.

Sutures

Some stitches will be removed at 5 days, and others dissolve in about two weeks.

Wound Care

Upper eyelid incisions may be cleaned with diluted peroxide and coated lightly with Erythromycin Ointment or Polysporin using Q tips as demonstrated by your doctor. Blood tears and drainage are normal, especially in the first few days or with increased activity. If eyes feel dry, an over-the-counter natural tears formula may be used as needed.

Activity

Elevate the head of the bed 30 degrees using one or two pillows. Use ice for the first 24 to 48 hours for swelling (Frozen pees in a zip-lock bag are very convenient and effective). Increase activity as tolerated with no heavy exercise for two weeks.

Special Instructions

Contact lenses may be worn after about one week. Swelling and bruising is normal. Eyes may feel dry and scratchy
