Anesthesia

Merheb Surgical Arts IN Peoria & Pekin, IL

Several methods of anesthesia are available. During your consultation with Dr. Merheb, you will decide on the best method for you based on the type of procedure and your level of apprehension.

LOCAL ANESTHESIA

Local anesthesia is applied directly to the surgical site to numb the area. It is typically used for minor oral surgery procedures such as tooth extractions, biopsies, or implants.

NITROUS OXIDE (LAUGHING GAS)

Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a mask placed over the nose, helping the patient relax and reducing anxiety. Local anesthesia is administered after the patient feels comfortable.

INTRAVENOUS SEDATION (“TWILIGHT SEDATION”)

Intravenous (IV) sedation, also known as “twilight sleep,” helps patients feel calm and comfortable during dental procedures. Medication is administered through an IV placed in a vein, allowing the patient to drift off to sleep. While the patient is asleep, a local anesthetic is used to numb the surgical site. This method is very safe, predictable, and effective.

GENERAL ANESTHESIA

General anesthesia is provided by an anesthesia provider through a mask, resulting in complete sedation. An IV may be inserted once the patient is asleep. This method allows the patient to be fully unconscious during the procedure, enabling Dr. Merheb to perform the operation quickly and efficiently.

  • A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, and drive the patient home.
